Barcelona-El Prat Airport
Environment Management System
Barcelona has implemented an Environmental Management System (EMS) certified in 1999 pursuant to the International UNE-EN-ISO-14001 standard, which ensures: fulfilment of the legal requirements applicable in environmental issues, establishment of goals and targets for improving the environmental management, the environmental skills of workers in their workplace, environmental control of all Aena Aeropuertos' activities and operations, preparation and response for environmental emergencies, monitoring and measurement of the organisation's environmental effort (behaviour), aperture of file on detected non-conformities and application of corrective and preventive actions, and, in short, fulfilment of the environmental policy signed by Aena Aeropuertos' management.
Barcelona was the first Spanish airport to obtain certification for its Environmental Management System under the UNE-EN-ISO-14001 standard.
Today the environmental management forms an indivisible part of the airport's general management.
Barcelona airport's EMS is audited annually by an independent certification company to verify that it is correctly implemented and that it complies with the international standard.
