- León Airport. On the Way of Stars, by Isabel Barrionuevo Almuzara. Situated on the Way of St. James, the "way of stars" that leads pilgrims to their goal in Santiago de Compostela, Leon airport has experienced a profound transformation since its first commercial flight took off for Barcelona on 2 June 1999. Two runway and apron extensions, as well as a new terminal area, are the culmination of over a decade of investments that have multiplied capacity and operativity and improved the quality of services in this modern and unique space.
- Airlines test their imagination, by Laura Ordóñez. In a context of crisis for the aviation industry, the extra income obtained from auxiliary services or products, rather than charging for tickets, has opened up new possibilities for airlines. The ancillary revenues, as they are known in the sector, are testing the imagination of airlines.
- Spanish military aviation turns one hundred, by Juan Manuel Riesgo. 13 March 2011 marks the one hundredth anniversary of the first flight of Spanish military aviation. It took place at the Cuatro Vientos aerodrome, in a Farman plane acquired in France, piloted by Benito Loygorri and carrying captain Emilio Herrera Linares as a student. But they are not the only distinguished names from Spanish aviation to leave their mark in this history full of feats and landmarks. Other leading figures include colonel Pedro Vives, captains Emilio Herrera and Alfredo Kindelán, and flying officer José Ortiz Echagüe.
- A historical take on postal airlines, by Carlos Saldaña Fernández. The development of civil aviation in Spain in the 1920s and 30s cannot be conceived separately from its function of transporting mail. It is a history of adventurers, of business initiatives that were only viable with public subsidies, of protecting the budding national aeronautical industry, of forced mergers and seizures of airlines... until the state finally nationalised the airmail service.
- Contemporary art passes through the fairs, by Maite Vázquez. Spain has a great showcase for trade fairs, both on a national and regional level, where national and international gallery directors struggle to find a place. But the economic crisis has also hit them in such a way that some have been forced to disappear, others have opted to become visible on the street through public participation and others, in spite of the economic storm, have gone for quality as their main identifying mark. Their future will depend on what they do during these years.
- Moneo plans an art museum for the University of Navarra, by Gonzalo Iguaín. Navarre, one of the few regions that still has no contemporary art museum, is planning a centre to be located on the university campus, designed by Rafael Moneo. The Beaumont Foundation is backing this project, which will have an exceptional artistic legacy: 60 pieces by artists including Picasso, Rothko, Tapiès, Chillida, Oteiza, Palazuelo and Feito. All this, plus the photographic collection of Ortiz Echagüe, with images of great historical value.
- A great cultural centre in Zaragoza, by Arantxa Noriega. The CaixaForum centres, promoted by "la Caixa" Welfare Projects, nurture culture in the five cities where they are located (Madrid, Barcelona, Palma de Majorca, Lleida and Tarragona). The goal of the organisation is to plant emblematic buildings throughout Spain that will henceforth become part of the nation's architectural heritage. Zaragoza will be the next city to open a CaixaForum.
